Senior Brand Strategist – New Product Development
The New Product Development strategy team within the Strategy & Innovation office owns new product development strategy & execution of new products, from concept and prototype, to product feasibility, and finally through commercialization. This team comprises of multi-disciplinary individuals, from market intelligence, food scientist, consumer technical insights, financial analysts, packaging specialist, and brand strategists to manage and own the "Concept to Customer” process for Vinamilk. The Senior Brand Strategist will have a business mindset, creative and branding expertise, and an overall can-do attitude to move blockers and bring new concepts to life.
1. Main Responsibilities
a. Creates and manages the new product development pipeline portfolio, to ensure successive annual roll-outs of value-added profitable products, to achieve 5-year plan growth targets.
b. Build and manage a cross-disciplinary team, including partnering with existing business unit leaders and partners to manage the process.
c. Concept stage – Innovation pipeline:
• Capture ideas
• Research market size and opportunities
• Assess viability within strategic portfolio management
• Explore potential go to market models
• Conduct financial models
• Manage concept prioritization roadmap
d. Feasibility stage – Full business case model:
• Develop brand positioning and product concept
• Develop commercial formula and packaging solutions
• Create commercial execution plan and timeline
• Evaluate financial projections and acceptance threshold
• Make go/no go decision
e. Launch stage – Execution management:
• Post launch ROI validation – sales and cost performance validation
• Customer/Market feedback
• Champion identified improvements
• Ensure key learnings and best practice are documented and shared institutionally.
• Implement improvements in project management tools and methodologies.
f. Maintain ongoing communication with Packaging, Procurement, Manufacturing and Engineering to insure a thorough understanding of emerging new ingredients, packaging and manufacturing technology. Incorporate this learning into new product development process.
2. Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree required. Marketing, business management or a related discipline preferred.
• 10+ years of marketing experience preferably in FMCG industry
• Minimum of 8 years of business experience in the field of marketing, product management or sales. Experience in Project management, leading cross function teams, and using a product development process preferred. Must be willing to continue to advance education in project management
• Obsession with consumer needs and expectations
• Desire to take actions with high degree of ambiguity and risks;
• Ability to move fast and learn through calculated experiments
• Highly analytical with creative mindset
• Excellent written & verbal communication skills
• Can build trust and relationships in environment of high complexity
• Expert at multi-tasking and managing deadlines
3. Preferred Qualifications
• Master’s Degree in Finance, Business, Engineering, or Creative
• Direct experience building a new brand (not product) from scratch in developed markets
