Quang Tri Province is known as the most cruel battleground, and a prison where thousands of patriots, communists and innocent inhabitants were detained throughout two resistances against France and America to save the country. This place produced outstanding people for the nation, but was badly affected by wars so the malnutrition and disability rate of Quang Tri children is quite high—especially in the mountainous area where the ethnic minorities live. The place was therefore selected by the Milk Fund 2014 as one of the stops on its journey to help children from families of war invalids and martyrs, as well as to express gratitude to those who sacrificed their lives for our motherland and its people.

In this program, 72,270 glasses of milk were given to 800 Quang Tri pupils by Ms.Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan - Member of the Politburo, Vice President of the National Assembly; Ms.Pham Thi Hai Chuyen - Member of the Executive Committee of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs; representatives of provincial leaders, the National Fund for Children of Vietnam and Vinamilk’s Director. On this occasion, the National Fund for Children of Vietnam (under the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs) also donated 1.6 billion VND to children in difficult circumstances, the policy families of Quang Tri Province in 2014. Additionally, the Trade Union of the Vietnam News Agency also encouraged its staff and officers to contribute 50 million VND to help children of the officers, soldiers and fishermen of the Province who were on duty protecting Vietnam's sovereignty over its seas and islands.

Also in the program, pupils had the chance to meet, chat and play funny games with the ambassadors of the program—comedian Xuan Bac and comedian Tu Long. Previously, in 2014, Vinamilk also held events to present milk to children at Co To Island District (Quang Ninh) and Ba Tri District (Ben Tre).

MORE THAN 307,000 DISADVANTAGED CHILDREN GET THE OPPORTUNITY TO DRINK MILK

In 2014, despite economic difficulties, the Stand Tall Vietnam Milk Fund has been continuing its mission, granting an amount of milk equivalent to 8 billion VND (a 33% increase in value compared to that of 2013) to disadvantaged children. This will be directly granted to children in the orphanages and social protection centers as well as to pre-school and primary school pupils in the remote areas of 63 provinces across the country. To date, the Milk Fund has given 307,000 disadvantaged children across Vietnam about 22 million glasses of milk, which is the equivalent to 83 billion VND.

Through sweet glasses of the milk of kindness, the Stand Tall Vietnam Milk Fund not only wants to contribute to improving the nutrition and maximising the physical and mental potential of Vietnamese children, but also hopes to raise awareness and interest amongst the whole society for the development of children— the future owners of the country.

The Stand Tall Vietnam Milk Fund was established in 2008, under the chairmanship of the National Fund for Children of Vietnam - Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, in collaboration with Vinamilk. The Milk Fund was established for the purpose of helping disadvantaged children in the country, the action seemed simple but very practical - providing the cup of nutritious milk to contribute to helping the children get the opportunity to develop physically and intellectually to have a brighter future. Ms. Pham Thi Hai Chuyen said: "The six-year journey of the Milk Fund has contributed funds to bring hundred thousands of children the opportunity to drink milk more often to improve the physical condition of their bodies and minds. I appreciate the sense of responsibility to the community demonstrated by Vinamilk and the assistance of the National Fund for Children of Vietnam to the program "Stand Tall Vietnam", and we hope that the program will continue to be implemented for many years to come."
